Work Diary : Project The DFV opens like a Lotus Flower in March

Finished

DFV

Day 21

Date January 5, 2013

Day 23. DONE….. or at least mostly done 95%. This is where I walk away from a painting for a few weeks. I can only really evaluate the finally changes that need to be made after seeing a piece with a clearer vision.

Perhaps it is easier to see a painting without feeling every part of it is too precious too alter after a change in focus. At this point I just need to repaint the blacks and the white positive/negative spaces if nothing else requires attention.

Hopefully a new canvas worth material will be ready in a couple days.

Day 20

Date January 5, 2013

Day 22. The end draw near. Im working just as hard compiling images and info for the next painting in the series. As the white space in the middle finally gets attention there is a dramatic change in movement and color intensity.

Day 18

Date January 5, 2013

Day 20. I’m really behind on the daily posts. Almost done with this piece. Working title is: #1 DFV from Kiwi to Eagle

Day 17

Date January 5, 2013

Day 19: Feels like completion is coming into view. I am so glad that I added a Windmill Easel attachment to my cumbersome 2 mast easel. I can work so much quicker with the ability to rotate the painting 360 while still stationary. www.http://windmilleasel.com/

Day 16

Date January 5, 2013

Day 18: Left hand corners are finally getting some attention. Makes it feel a little more rounded in appearance.

image

Day 15

Date January 5, 2013

Day 17: Starting to repaint some areas to ensure color movement works as well as I intended.

image

Day 14

Date January 5, 2013

Day 16. Outer edges are the most significant changes currently. Next few days should bring more visible changes.

image

Day 13

Date January 5, 2013

Day 15. Minutiae is becoming overwhelming, changes are much harder to describe.

image

Day 12

Date January 5, 2013

Day 14 into this work. I had hoped to be done by now, but I am working much faster than normal.

image

Day 11

Date January 5, 2013

Lots of change here. The edge areas are starting to take some form with a couple deleted areas. My intention was to have to have the blue be quite a bit more dominant, but the reds are just so strong. Not sure if I am going to let the reds have their head or reign things in with some deletion and repaints.

image

Day 10

Date January 5, 2013

Not much to add at this stage. Little change showing for a lot of work. I am finding it how annoying dealing with the color shift from taking pix at widely varying schedules.

image

Day 09

Date January 5, 2013

Couple of days behind in updates. Starting to become much more aware of the color movement . Deviations in color have less overall impact on the whole.

image

Day 08

Date January 5, 2013

Slow but steady progress. Much faster than most of my work. new studio methodologies have increased the speed at which I can work. Compared to many previous pieces that took months to complete, this should be finished in approx 2 weeks. Time is speeding by.

image

Day 07

Date December 11, 2013

Apparent change slows down as complexity increases. I am at image eight and it is getting much harder to tell difference day to day.

image

Day 06

Date January 5, 2013

Color deviation is heading towards less primary tones at the moment. Complexity of the middle and tones of the middle are reminiscent of my previous work “Dread – Not little Girl”

image

Day 05

Date December 30, 2012

Starting to work on the morass of the middle section. Many of my pieces have a tendency toward overcomplicated sections. Much of it has to do with refusing to edit the original images as much as I original intended. A certain amount of preciousness creeps into some of the images and it makes it hard to keep from over saturating the information.

image

Day 04

Date December 30, 2012

Additional vibrant values being added. Being consistent with my documentation and uploading is proving to be a bit more daunting than I had originally hoped. I have changed several items in my studio to help streamline the labor and it is taking some time to settle in. I also tried using a webcam instead of the DSLR that I normally use, but the focal length is not suitable. Really would have helped keep the uploads more consistent.

image

Day 03

Date December 30, 2012

Splash of color being added for a sense focus. The color palette is chosen partially from the individual images and from the overall subject matter. Working sporadically without creating any form of guide ahead of time often leads to revisions being required at several stages to create a harmonized image.

Multiple steps of repainting entire sections often is tedious and time wasting, but necessary when it comes to allowing a painting to grow organically. Each choice made has a distinct ripple effect on the whole. Even starting with the same set of images and palette, I would not be able to create the same painting twice. Some day I will have to try doing a Warhol like series of siblings. Although I find it hard enough to remain consistantly enthusiastic through a single painting, I cant imagine how much a would hate the subject by the time I finished 4-5 of the same.

image

Day 02

Date December 30, 2012

Starting to block in some dark tone. By starting dark I can mark out some sense of movement. In some ways it is like a writer with a blank page, until some paint goes done I haven’t really started.Step2

image

Day 01

Date December 30, 2012

Start of painting no1 of the “Corporation Motivation” series begins with the base sketch. This is the first of 13 images that will need to be projected and sketched onto the prepared base. Each image is selectively drawn with an eye towards balancing the information needed and the aesthetic movement that each adds to the whole.

Diary start. Reconstituted

Date December30, 2012

This is the second time I have created this diary. Hopefully this time I will have the clairvoyance to export a copy before my server host decides to erase all my files. I am sure this sounds very childish and a bit petulant, but I am still very irritated at the need to redo work.

Im starting a new series of Paintings tonight. After a couple weeks of research gathering, the musing becomes tactile. Four specific pieces are intended with the possibility of two additional. Subject matter is superficially concerning corporate branding and its inclusion in retrospective sports fantasies of youth. All pieces will be a somewhat more living space friendly 48″X48″ instead of my standard 6ft and 11ft. For the first time I will be documenting the process online. Each stage will be documented except showing the specific images included in each painting. Images and text will be posted here and at my main website(http://www.donaldwrissler.com/) and at my Saatchi online account(http://www.saatchionline.com/DonaldWRissler).
